Every Paragraph should be:

Unified – All of the sentences in a single paragraph should relate to a single controlling idea.

Clearly related to the dissertation – The sentences should all refer to the central idea of the dissertation

Coherent – The sentence should be arranged in a logical manner and should follow a definite plan for your development.

Well developed – Every idea discussed in the paragraph should be adequately explained and supported through evidence.

Remember that in an academic english, a paragraph should contain more than 1 sentence.

If you find you have written a very short paragraph of 1 or 2 sentences, check weather you need to add extra info.

Try to use a range of linking words and expressions – moreover; however; nevertheless. These help your readers make the paragraphs clearer.

It may help your reader to conclude a paragraph with what will follow in the next one.
