Filling the Scenes

Today (Monday 4th April), we had a bit of feedback from Yuanyuan and that was to add in some more magical elements to the shots.  They already have small balls of ‘light’, however add in some more 3D things, and I thought it would be cool to look at giant mushrooms.  very similar to Alice and Wonderland and Charlie and the chocolate factory.

I cant help but feel that these will really help to mush up our scenes and to make them more magical and defiantly make it feel like ‘the land of wonder’.

So I went ahead and began to model some mushrooms, really looking at the above images for inspiration.

I then unwrapped them and textured them.

I also managed to get a few mushrooms online, which really helped to speed the process up.

The first scene that I wanted to ‘buff’ up was the very beginning.  The first opening shot of the forest. I feel that this was in dire need of some extra stuff in the scene.  I then brought in the mushrooms and began to place them around the scene.  I don’t think that all scenes need these, just the ones that feel very bare!

Then i rendered these out as separate layers and then composited them into each scene that they were needed.  The scenes they are in are:

  • Opening forrest shots
  • Owl
  • Dexter
  • Bee

GodRays

Another thing that I have looked at it adding in God Rays and flares into each scene, to try and make it more ‘magical’. Adding in Godrays does help buff the scene up.  ‘300’ used Godrays a lot!

This really has helped to make each scene alot more magical!  And something which I am very happy with!

Before and After

Here is a before pictures, which just has the godrays in each scene and then an after picture which also has the mushrooms in certains scenes.  Between the godrays and the mushrooms, I feel that each scene really has been made more magical!
